My Estonian Socks with ROSES

Already for two years I had this pair of hand knitted Estonian woolen socks with ROSES
But they did not fit in ANY of my shoes...
Got me some bone colored Crocs in a size 9 and that works perfect!
Knew Mieke, from the blog Gebreide Sjaals in The Netherlands.
Did have her knit a beautiful lace knitted scarf in black, for our adopted daughter Liz in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
Never got any photo of it however...
Dikke wollen kniekousen winter 21/2022 ←click link and at the very top you also find knitted scarfs.
All hand knitted in Estonia and they truly are gorgeous!
Pieter took this detail from my leg...
One can only admire such incredible work!
Wearing my Escada skirt (pleated in the back) with my roses socks and cashmere sweater.
Bare legs as I was having my medical pedicure at Georgia Podology Services in Lithonia, GA near Atlanta.
Next day, wearing my Wolford pantyhose under my knee socks with roses.
This was at the Hyatt House Atlanta/Cobb Galleria.
Inside our room...

Do you like ROSES and warm woolen socks?

Arriving at Sheraton Harbor Island Hotel, San Diego, California for 5th North American Mushroom Conference

On Saturday, March 9, 1985 we left from the Santa Cruz, California area where we'd stayed for three nights at the home of mushroom friends Don and Donna Richardson.
See post below.
Me standing in front of the then Sheraton Harbor Island East Hotel.
Now it is called Sheraton San Diego Hotel And Marina...
We stayed in room 408 and checked in for our 5-night stay for the 5th North American Mushroom Conference where Pieter would be a speaker on the 12th.
View from our room...
We did walk around and then enjoyed a Mexican dinner.
Wearing my hand knitted, hand embroidered cardigan—see link below post.
On Sunday, March 10 we had breakfast at 8:00 and by 10:00 we met with Pieter's Dutch friend Chris van Zon and walked together.
In the distance you see San Diego

Chris captured both of us next to this boat for sale...

Mom & Dad's Trio of Crucifix with Corpus and Plaques with Red Copper Relief Statues

When I did fly solo to The Netherlands—one last time in June of 2022, it was for a very special reason.
Bringing home some treasures from their estate in Limburg...
Mom & Dad's Trio of Crucifix with Corpus and Plaques with red Copper Relief Statues on oak, now hangs above our bed...
Dad's Maternal Uncle — Heeroom blessed the marriage of Mom & Dad but also this special trio.
It hung above their bed till the very end—now it resides in our home in the USA.
My photo seen hanging to the right here below—also came home...
This photo I took on February 21, 2014 when we flew to The Netherlands for Mom's 90th Birthday and Mom & Dad's 65th Wedding Anniversary.
That was the LAST time I got to see Mom alive... see post below about Mom's Hand Knitted Bedspread as Window Display.

1985 Campbell Mushroom Plant Designed by Pieter J.C. Vedder

Found this excellent short video that Pieter took in 1985 from the Campbell Mushroom Plant that he designed.

Of course I had to design the window decoration with mushrooms in—and then did hand crochet it.

If you view this 1:53 minute video on YouTube there are clickable links below with info.

This photo is from March 1984, with the hand crocheted window decoration with mushrooms hanging.
But no landscaping being done yet!

Husband Pieter at his desk and you can better see those mushrooms—first quality and broad stems as per mushroom quality criteria!

Sure my Mauzie girl approved ot those mushrooms!
She watched me crochet them... as well as knit the hand embroidered cardigan I wear.
This aerial view of CAMSCO's Dublin, Georgia, farm shows the standardized growing rooms, the tunnel complex and the covered wharf in the background.
As published in MUSHROOM NEWS JANUARY 5, 1985
The growing room doors at Dublin are moveable to accommodate filling with the head–end filling machine.
The working corridor is shown as construction neared completion at Dublin.

Ancient Grey Stuart Tartan fabric from Chester UK

Found some new purpose for my Ancient Grey Stuart Tartan skirt.
Pieter did bring the fabric home from Chester when he went to the British Mushroom Days, together with a red cashmere v-neck sweater seen here: To University of Bologna, Vicenza, Venice and via Austria to The Netherlands
Such are the bonus parts of travel!
So, I created a skirt...
This photo is from December 12... when I did wear it.
The painters had taken down the shutters of our windows...
Wearing it with my newly scored Lela Rose Sweater hand knitted in soft 70% wool and 30% silk.
This is me on February 28, 1985 with my Dachshund Mauzie girl, visible to the left...
Together with a Kashmir Pashmina shawl.
See 1:35 minute video: Pashmina Kashmiri Woolen Shawls
Also see this British Pathé video: Kashmir Travelogue item showing the long journey of Kashmir wool from Himalayan goats to chick London sweaters (or from Chester... 😉).
Did you notice that I've taken off the light plaid part, in order to shorten the skirt?
Label saved in diary... THE ANCIENT GREY STEWART TARTAN
Like it better with this length, don't you agree?
My taupe Escada pumps match nicely, also got a purse with that.
Already in April I'd scored the lovely sweater... Too warm for wearing it then, so I waited.
Fell in love with this Lela Rose Leaf-Knit Pullover Sweater, Taupe when I saw it at Neiman Marcus but did NOT like its price tag of $ 995.00
The $ 175.99 did sound a LOT better and it will last me for life...

Non Glamorous Wheelbarrow Job for Filling and Raising Swampy Parts

On May 1 of 1992 we had come back home following our Exodus from Indonesia after being robbed and we thus quit instead of going back a few more times for 2 months. See links below post.
That meant that here on May 23 of 1992, we both started developing our Estate.
Me in my SWAMP UNIFORM... Haha!
Dumping load after load, that got dug up by husband Pieter. To fill in this really SWAMPY PART around the gazebo where you would sink into before.
There seem to be several underground springs that caused these excessive wet spots.
Also keep in mind that both of us were the very first human beings ever cultivating this lot. Nobody ever had lived there and we never found any native American artifacts either...
So we really did some land reclamation!!!
Pieter was digging up some dirt here, where the pipe from the pond overflow would end into the creek.
All I had to do is wheel the wheelbarrow uphill and dump it around the gazebo.
Lucky Pieter for being able to work in the shade but I got exposed to the sun and hence my SWAMP UNIFORM
Ready to go uphill again.
Wearing the hand knitted socks done by my Mother-in-law!
Putting them to very good use.
Wearing my Campbell cap...
As you can see on the table in the gazebo, we did stop for a break in-between our hard labor!
On May 27, a pallet with square exposed aggregate concrete step stones lay already waiting to be worked in...
First on May 29, Pieter had to build a little patio at the end of the stairs from our veranda for starting the walk towards our gazebo...
Yes, he also was digging in all the piping for the lawn and garden for being able to use with hose and portable sprinklers. Since we live on a slope, fixed sprinklers would not work.
A short break after I did bring him some refreshments to enjoy...
Hard work and mostly back breaking!
Working in the square exposed aggregate concrete step stones...
Now on May 31, it was my turn for getting on my knees and washing them in with sand...
Step by step we accomplished all the heavy jobs!
July 17, 1992 Pieter started painting the ginger bread from Vintage Woodworks, high on a ladder on the driveway side...
Fighting the elements in a subtropical climate is not easy.
Here you see that our pond is too high, as the overflow into the creek is not working with the flooded creek, visible in the back.
Later, with the 60 tons of dirt dug up from under the house for creating the Rose Suite, we did fill in that low area behind the pond, for avoiding flooding.
😉Oh, those glamour jobs before you turn your land into an estate as shown on the video below in link...

I'll Be Darned - I DID IT AGAIN

After a long wait and search... I finally found embroidery floss in the matching color with my legwarmers.
I've hand knitted them from soft baby wool...
On the fold-over in the back, there was a hole...
My search ended at Herrschners, where I found the matching embroidery floss
Did use the full floss as that was about right for matching the baby wool.
ONLY $ 0.40 for one skein  Made from long staple 100% Egyptian cottton, which is recognized as the world's finest. This high-quality mercerized 6-strand divisible floss is dyed in rich colors with a luxurious sheen. A delight to stitch with and perfect for all your heirloom-quality projects.
Yep, I'll Be Darned - I DID IT AGAIN
Out came the antique sock darner and I put it to work.
Using a thick needle for threading the full floss, all 6 strands!
Here is Speckie girl, the naughty feline that made the hole...
Sorry for the poor selfie!
See that tongue...? She really is a naughty one! See post below about her...
But Speckie girl promised to NOT DO THAT AGAIN!
My Mom would have done a far neater job... but I'm glad I closed it up in a safe way.
Done and taken outside for the best color effect.
Happy that those damaged stitches no longer can run further!
